MAPLE GROVE, Minn., Nov. 17, 2022 —GUARDIAN RFID, the global leader in inmate management and tracking systems, today announced that Smith County Sheriff's Office in Tyler, Texas—has selected GUARDIAN RFID for its county jail to manage, monitor, and track its inmate population.
Smith County Sheriff's Office has an average daily population of nearly 1,000 inmates. Prior to GUARDIAN RFID, Smith Co. used an iButton-based guard tour solution that included data collectors known as the PIPE, and its jail management system, Tyler Odyssey, to manage security rounds, inmate movements, and daily activity logging. This manual, siloed approach to logging information lacked internal staff collaboration and operational awareness as the staff had to constantly replace the buttons and experienced numerous occasions of losing round data. After a failed jail inspection that resulted in increased liability, Smith Co. staff realized the need for a platform that unifies the execution of their inmate management objectives, using RFID, the Cloud, and mobile to automate actionable, security-critical workflows.
Smith Co. staff is actively deploying SPARTAN, an ultra-rugged Android device from GUARDIAN RFID, which runs Mobile Command software, along with RFID Wristbands and hardened RFID tags to capture a wide range of inmate activities, behavioral observations, inmate movements, programs attendance, and court transports. Mobile Command will also enable staff to capture image and video assets during cell checks uploaded to OnDemand, the GUARDIAN RFID Cloud. OnDemand will allow staff to gain real-time situational awareness, as well as monitor security round and positive ID headcount performance while supporting a two-way interface with their existing jail management system, Tyler Odyssey.
