500-bed pacific coast jail to deploy RFID platform to strengthen defensibility and compliance with California Jail Standards

MAPLE GROVE, Minn., March 6, 2018 /PRNewswire—Santa Cruz Co. Sheriff’s Office has partnered with GUARDIAN RFID to rollout its inmate management system that automatically captures a wide range of inmate activities, behavioral observations, inmate movements, court transports, and positive ID headcounts that works with the county’s existing jail management system.

GUARDIAN RFID will replace the jail’s longstanding paper-based logs and manual forms. The facility’s guard tour system, Guard1, a standalone guard tour system from TimeKeeping Systems, will be eliminated and streamlined by an array of hardened RFID tags, RFID Wristbands, and ultra-rugged Android devices called SPARTAN, to manage, monitor, and track inmates using Mobile Command, corrections most widely deployed mobile application.

The GUARDIAN RFID system will help jail staff collect data faster and more comprehensively than its present manual tools. This includes inmate meal offerings, programs attendance, and medication administration records which will help reduce inmate complaints and future litigation, while increase compliance efficiency with California jail standards. GUARDIAN RFID will also enable staff to share and communicate information faster than ever, thanks to its Cloud-based platform, OnDemand, which interfaces with the county’s current jail management system.

Comments about the Announcement

“GUARDIAN RFID possesses a unique balance of deep correctional expertise matched by a robust, sophisticated technology set that’s powerfully simple for staff to use and embrace at every level,” said Chief Deputy Steve Carney.

Interfacing GUARDIAN RFID with its enterprise software

GUARDIAN RFID is deploying a two-way interface to the county’s jail management system from EIS, a public safety software vendor based in Ocala, Florida. The interface will enable detention staff to automatically share inmate information including housing assignments, mugshots, and other security-critical information, up-to-the-minute, while capturing inmate-specific events and activities, and send GUARDIAN RFID data back to EIS.
