San Antonio-area jail unifies its inmate management objectives with RFID + Cloud + Mobile.

MAPLE GROVE, Minn., February 27, 2018 /PRNewswire—GUARDIAN RFID, the global leader in inmate management and tracking systems, today announced Kerr Co. Sheriff’s Office in Kerrville, Texas, has chosen GUARDIAN RFID in its detention facility with a rated bed capacity of 192 inmates.

Kerr Co. Detention Facility is deploying SPARTAN, the ultra-rugged Android from GUARDIAN RFID running Mobile Command software, including RFID Wristbands and hardened RFID tags strategically deployed throughout the facility to automate a wide range of data collection and reporting needs mandated by Texas Jail Standards, and eliminate its longstanding manual and paper-based logging.

GUARDIAN RFID is enabling Kerr Co. detention staff to automate cell checks and behavioral observations with real-time monitoring, including imaging support during security rounds, as well as automating inmate movements, programs attendance, court transports, and more, which is interfacing with Kerr Co.’s jail management system, Odyssey, from Tyler Technologies. The GUARDIAN RFID/Odyssey interface automatically shares inmate demographics, housing assignments, keep separates, mugshots, and more, allowing detention staff to capture inmate specific data while extending additional value to their existing enterprise software.

The previous siloed approach to logging information lacked automation, consistency, and internal staff communication and collaboration.

The GUARDIAN RFID Cloud, OnDemand, is helping staff gain real-time situational awareness, monitor security round and positive ID headcount performance, and access activity streams and reporting tools from anywhere, while working with Odyssey.

The Sandra Bland Act mandates county jails divert people with mental health and substance abuse issues toward treatment, makes it easier for defendants to receive a personal bond if they have a mental illness or intellectual disability, and requires that independent law enforcement agencies investigate jail deaths. The law took effect September 1, 2017.
