Jacksonville-area jail unifies its inmate management objectives with RFID + Cloud + Mobile.

MAPLE GROVE, Minn., January 29, 2018 /PRNewswire—GUARDIAN RFID, the global leader in inmate management and tracking systems, today announced Baker Co. Sheriff’s Office in Macclenny, Florida, has chosen GUARDIAN RFID in its detention facility with an average daily population of 500 inmates.

Baker Co. Jail is deploying SPARTAN, the ultra-rugged Android from GUARDIAN RFID running Mobile Command software, including RFID Wristbands and hardened RFID tags strategically deployed throughout the facility to automate a wide range of data collection and reporting needs mandated by Florida Model Jail Standards, and eliminate its longstanding manual and paper-based logging.

GUARDIAN RFID is enabling Baker Co. staff to automate cell checks and behavioral observations with real-time monitoring, as well as automating inmate movements, programs attendance, court transports, and more, which is interfacing with Baker Co.’s jail management system, SmartCop, from Caliber Justice. The GUARDIAN RFID/SmartCop interface automatically shares inmate demographics, housing assignments, keep separates, mugshots, and more, allowing detention staff to capture inmate specific data while extending additional value to their existing enterprise software.

Baker Co. Sheriff's Office had evaluated numerous solutions to replace their manual logging processes. This included zone-based Active RF tracking systems, which were found to be too costly upfront and too expensive to maintain, and lacked the data collection and reporting that Baker Co. needed to ensure compliance with Florida Model Jail Standards. They also looked at iOS devices with QR codes, but did not like the complexity of customizing a solution to meet their needs with iOS, the lack of data defensibility with QR codes, and no removable battery.

With GUARDIAN RFID, Baker Co. Sheriff's Office liked the ultra-ruggedness of Android-based SPARTAN, the power and ease of use with Mobile Command, and the ability to leverage OnDemand, the cloud-based platform that enables Baker Co. to run their jail from anywhere to gain real-time situational awareness, monitor security round and positive ID headcount performance, and leverage activity streams and reporting tools.
