MIDLAND, Texas, June 16, 2024 - GUARDIAN RFID, the global leader in inmate management and tracking systems, today announced that Midland County Sheriff’s Office, in Midland Texas, has selected GUARDIAN RFID to manage, monitor, and track the inmate population of its county jail.
Midland Co. Jail has a capacity of 800 inmates, with hopes to expand. Prior to GUARDIAN RFID, Midland Co. staff struggled with reaching compliance as they heavily relied on manual paper logs. The agency turned to GUARDIAN RFID to maximize staff accountability and gain data-driven compliance through the world’s most-trusted inmate tracking system. It became evident to Midland Co. staff that GUARDIAN RFID modules such as Security Checks, Movements, Meals, Recreation, and Headcounts would help turn their agency’s priorities around when adopting the advanced technology system.
Midland Co. Jail staff deployed SPARTAN, an ultra-rugged Android device from GUARDIAN RFID, which runs Mobile Command XR software, along with RFID Wristbands and hardened RFID tags to capture a wide range of inmate activities, behavioral observations, inmate movements, programs attendance, court transports, and more. The capability to track such matters helped them meet compliance.
The GUARDIAN RFID system will help jail staff collect data faster and more comprehensively than its present manual tools. The facility wanted to implement a way to scan wristbands for either “Accepted” or “Refused” supply items, such as razors, as part of their requirements.
There was excitement to utilize a tool to empower the correctional officers to be more efficient and effective. Officer Carbajal, for example, expressed gratitude towards the ability to log everything in the moment rather than waiting for computer access or having to write everything on paper. He further emphasized how much he appreciated being able to keep track of where all of his inmates were at the palm of his hand, and not carrying around roster sheets with illegible writing. Moreover, Midland Co. is committed to improving its compliance by ensuring that staff are accurately logging their interactions with the inmates.
